Whiskey wasn’t just invented in Ireland – it was perfected. Irish whiskey distillers honed their craft over centuries of supervision at the pot still and created a spirit that became known around the world for its high quality and fine flavour. At the turn of the 20th century, hundreds of distillers in Dublin alone enjoyed an 85% share of the global whiskey market, World Wars, American Prohibition, trade embargoes and a number of other factors devastated the industry. By the middle of the century, just a few distillers remained, and premium expressions became extremely difficult to find outside of the country.   But connoisseurs never lost their taste for Irish whiskey, and it’s this dedicated contingent who has led the recent renaissance. With demand for premium bottles increasing and the US market value exceeding $1 billion, Irish whiskey is well on its way to reclaiming its former glory.
